Privacy policy

The short version

  • The ingredient list you paste into the checker is processed by JavaScript inside your own browser. It is not uploaded, stored, logged or sent to analytics.
  • We count page views and how many times the checker is run, using Google Analytics 4. For each check we record only two numbers: how many ingredients were in the list and how many were flagged.
  • We do not sell data, run ads or use affiliate tracking at the moment.

The ingredient checker

When you press "Check ingredients", the text is read and compared against our ratings table in your browser tab. The table is downloaded with the page; nothing about your list goes back to our server or to anyone else.

If you use "Copy link to this result", the list is written into the part of the link after the #. Browsers never send that part of a link to a server. When someone opens such a link, the page reads the list and removes it from the address bar before any analytics script runs.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4, measurement ID G-8G93YNVKYF). GA4 receives the address of the page you are viewing and of the page that linked you here, both cut down to the site and path (no query string and nothing after a #), your approximate location at country or city level, your device and browser type, and a random identifier stored in a cookie. On the checker we also send an event named checker_run with two counts: the number of ingredients read and the number flagged. Google's handling of this data is described in Google's privacy policy. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or any content blocker; the checker works the same without it.

Cookies and local storage

  • _ga and _ga_*: set by Google Analytics (when enabled) to tell visits apart. They last up to two years.
  • theme (local storage, not a cookie): remembers if you chose light or dark mode. It never leaves your device.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
